About
Lucas Jackson grew up on a cattle ranch in the remote town of Quemado, New Mexico, where he was the salutatorian of a graduating class of 17. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, he spent several years as a commercial salmon fisherman off the coast of Alaska before beginning his career in journalism with a degree from Brooks Institute of Photography.
As a Senior Photojournalist at Reuters for nearly 15 years, Jackson built an acclaimed body of work documenting major global events, from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the effects of climate change in Greenland and the Caribbean, racial unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, and multiple Olympic Games. His images from these assignments, alongside cultural coverage of the Academy Awards and U.S. political campaigns, were internationally published and widely recognized. His work has been honored by the National Press Photographers Association, Pictures of the Year International, Prix de la Photographie, New York Press Photographers Association, and China International Press Photography.
As a Creative Director and Senior Creative Producer at Amazon, he leads visual storytelling across the company’s external communications and paid reputational marketing efforts. Drawing on his editorial sensibility, he oversees photography, video, and branded content production, collaborating with executives and creatives to develop narratives that span Amazon’s vast portfolio. His work fuses research-driven strategy with cinematic execution, creating emotionally resonant and visually impactful stories that remain accessible and deeply human.
He helped build the global network of freelance creatives and the roster of creative agency partners the team produces with today. He now serves on a team identifying opportunities to integrate AI into creative and editorial production processes.
Jackson has also volunteered for nearly two decades at the Eddie Adams Workshop, mentoring the next generation of image makers. He brings to every project a rare combination of grit, empathy, and precision, shaped by a lifetime spent telling stories with a camera, whether from the back of a horse, a fishing boat, or a conflict zone.
At home, Jackson is a delightfully exhausted father to three wild, wonderful boys. Like his photography, the role demands patience, humor, and an unwavering sense of perspective.
